Toorak
Despite remaining Melbourne's most expensive suburb for house prices, Toorak's ranking has dropped significantly in recent years - down from fifth in 2016 and third in 2011. The suburb is best for trams, tree cover, employment and cafes. Unlike most other suburbs placed above it this year, Toorak doesn't rank very highly for culture and retail, plus it has congested roads and limited open space.
